IT Metrics



As described on the header section this blog intend to be an space for sharing. Experience sharing, information sharing, for people who are interested in this critical management area of the business. The content is mainly focusing on some IT metric tools and management experiences I have been collecting during my professional career. Debates, documents and bibliografy related to this subject will complement the blog since my aim is to build a knowledge area from which every profesional or student can benefit from. If at the end this is just a repository of my own professional ideas on the way IT departments has to be manage then at least I will have the opportunity to rething about this important topics.

A set of different IT concepts and governance solutions are the basis for this blog, most of them resulting from my own experiences managing IT during almost 20 years working in different European countries and for different business companies (FCGC, Distribution and Insurance mainly).

An IT department has to be technology or management driven organization? This is a key question mark for many CEOs when confronted with the need to bring their own IT organizations to a different level of maturity. If he decides in favor of a technology driven organization then the IT department and its responsible person will be normally subordinated to someone at the Company Board level. The management of IT must be based on three key elements; - Focusing on expertise - Ensuring business integration - Generating a new breed of innovative strategic thinking Nowadays the Time to Market concept is a major business requirement, not only for the Fast Consumer goods companies but for all the business that really desire to be succeed in a very competitive and changing environments, hence the need for the IT departments to organize their own resources focusing mainly on a primary activity or function.
