Since March 2019 we have been forced to change our ways of life, work and relationship to a point we would never imagine. We are undoubtedly immersed in an unprecedent situation that despite all the difficult moments we faced and perhaps we still have to deal with, had helping our society to do a substantial and qualitative leap. In less than one year the world reacted and created the conditions to work pursuing a common objective. As a result of that or because of that, we have seen an unprecedent evolution and in some cases revolution, in the way we manage R&D innovation and related technology.
The Information Technology industry has not been an exception by any means. Many technology products that were launch to the market before the COVID or during this particular period, especially the ones looking at increasing productivity, improve intelligence information management and its fast access, high-tech industry development among others have experienced an increase on consumption. Undoubtedly Labs, health care services, distribution and some specialized manufacturing industries has been the ones driving this technology push up. However, we have also seen that some others have quickly follow the same trend as a result of new live habits and especial needs resulting from this new complex social paradigm. Technology products or solutions such IA, Industry 4.0, Robotics, Cloud access, Content management systems, etc. all of them landing under the digital technology concept has witnessed a tremendous industry push over these last months.
A simple and clear example is the way we have been forced to adapt our ways of communication, moving from a long-time proved face to face interaction model to a less familiar remote access. Something that was considered just as an alternative solution or at best an add-on of the traditional way to communicate in business, it suddenly becomes a must to have in everyday, everybody’s framework of communication.
IA that before this period of time was taking their first and shy steps in some specific industries is now experiencing a fast and increasing demand in many sectors of activity where a quick decision process based on elaborate and complex mathematical models is required. As such, pharmaceutical product developments, statistical and geographic information models, logistic product deliveries, among many others all of them are now requiring from the use of this type of technology.
Likewise, unlimited access to key information data managed in a secure technical environment with a reduced operational cost is now increasing the utilization of Cloud services at a level that has never been seen before. Hence, most of the key industry players either in the telecom industry and software development have consistently aligned their new product and solution developments with the Cloud agenda. They quickly realized that some of the constrains and fears that the market used to have with an open and shared storage architecture are becoming overcome by other and more key business criteria, such cost effectiveness.
So, all in all we can probably conclude that this unprecedent period of time and despite the terrible human experience we had to suffer, the world has experienced a remarkable increase of consumption on certain technologies that without any doubt will become an ongoing scenario after this world pandemic. Let’s hope then for a scenario where all of this will be used as a way to accelerate business transformation, looking at improve everybody’s living conditions while taking advantage from the economic recovery period that we are certainly going to experience
